Accelerator TBBS (NS), CAS: 95-31-8

Accelerator TBBS (also called NS or NZ), CAS 95-31-8 (N-tert-butyl-2-benzothiazolesulfenamide), is a sulfenamide (delayed-action) rubber accelerator. It is one of the most widely used accelerators in the tyre and rubber industry, giving good scorch safety with a fast, efficient cure. PolyBlueChem supplies it to the specification below with per-batch COA and SDS.

Basic Information

CAS number 95-31-8
Synonyms Accelerator TBBS; NS; NZ; N-tert-butyl-2-benzothiazolesulfenamide; N-tert-butylbenzothiazole-2-sulfenamide
Molecular formula C11H14N2S2
Molecular weight 238.4 g/mol
Type Sulfenamide accelerator (delayed action / post-vulcanisation)

Applications

  • Tyres – the principal accelerator for tread, carcass and sidewall compounds.
  • Technical rubber goods – belts, hoses, seals, mouldings.
  • General rubber – NR, SBR, BR and blends, activated with zinc oxide and stearic acid.
  • Light-coloured and non-staining compounds – a clean-curing sulfenamide.

TBBS is a delayed-action (post-vulcanisation) accelerator: it gives good scorch safety during processing and then a fast cure. It is often used with a secondary accelerator to fine-tune the vulcanisation system.

Packaging and documentation

  • 25 kg PP/PE bags or fibre drums; keep sealed, cool and dry.
  • Per-batch certificate of analysis (COA) and safety data sheet (SDS).
