Where it is used
- Second-generation Buchwald ligand for C-N and C-C coupling.
- Palladium-catalysed C-N and C-C coupling (Buchwald-Hartwig, Suzuki, amination of aryl halides)
- Coordination chemistry and catalyst screening, where electron density and steric bulk are tuned by choice of aryl substituent
Reading the specification
Two specification lines decide whether a phosphine ligand works. Purity by 31P NMR or HPLC matters because the free phosphine oxidises to the phosphine oxide, which is a different ligand and usually an inactive one; a nominal 99% by HPLC can still hide oxide if the method does not separate the two. Water and residual solvent matter in catalysis because they poison metal centres and shift selectivity. Buy on an assay that states the method, and ask for the oxide content if the ligand has been stored open.
Packaging and supply
Supplied in research quantities from 1 g and 5 g through 25 g and 100 g, with scale-up to bulk packed under nitrogen or argon where the product allows it. Every lot ships with a batch COA and the current SDS, FOB or CIF against destination. If you need a specific assay method, a water limit, an enantiomeric purity figure or a metal-residue limit, state it at enquiry stage – the batch documentation is issued against the specification you agree.
Handling: This product is sensitive to air and moisture. Phosphines oxidise to the corresponding phosphine oxide on exposure to air, and the oxide is a different – usually inactive – ligand, so keep containers sealed under nitrogen or argon, handle with Schlenk or glovebox technique, and check the 31P NMR of a stored sample if a container has been open for some time. Refer to the SDS for the full hazard profile.
