Oleyl Hydroxyethyl Imidazoline, CAS 27136-73-8

Oleyl Hydroxyethyl Imidazoline (CAS 27136-73-8) is an oil-soluble imidazoline corrosion inhibitor base, made from oleic acid and aminoethylethanolamine (AEEA). It is supplied as a brown viscous paste and is used as the film-forming base for oilfield and refinery corrosion-inhibitor formulations, and as an intermediate for water-soluble imidazoline derivatives.

Applications

  • Film-forming corrosion inhibitor base for oil and gas pipelines and refinery streams.
  • Intermediate for water-soluble imidazoline derivatives (e.g. quaternary ammonium salts).
  • Emulsifier and surface-active component in industrial formulations.

Storage and Packaging

Store in closed containers at ambient temperature, protected from moisture and away from strong acids and oxidising agents. Typically supplied in drums or IBCs as agreed. Retest period and storage conditions are stated on the Certificate of Analysis.

FAQ

What is oleyl hydroxyethyl imidazoline used for? Mainly as the oil-soluble, film-forming base for corrosion-inhibitor formulations used in oil and gas production and refining, and as an intermediate for water-soluble imidazoline derivatives.

What is the specification? A brown viscous paste with density 0.90-1.00 g/cm3 at 25 °C, active content 98% min, flash point above 61 °C and pour point below 15 °C.

Is it oil-soluble or water-soluble? The free base is oil-soluble. To make a water-soluble corrosion inhibitor, it is normally derivatised (for example quaternised) downstream.
