Where it is used

  • Oxygen heteroaryl boronic acid; prone to protodeboronation.
  • Suzuki-Miyaura coupling with aryl and heteroaryl halides in medicinal and process chemistry
  • Precursor to substituted arenes that are difficult to reach by electrophilic substitution

Reading the specification

Boronic acids have a specification problem that other building blocks do not: they dehydrate to boroxines on drying and lose activity to protodeboronation under warm, wet conditions, so a gas-chromatography assay can look acceptable while the active acid content has fallen. Store cold, dry and sealed, and where the coupling is sensitive ask for the acid content by titration rather than the nominal purity. Sterically hindered acids in this range are selected precisely because they resist protodeboronation.

Packaging and supply

Supplied in research quantities from 1 g and 5 g through 25 g and 100 g, with scale-up to bulk packed under nitrogen or argon where the product allows it. Every lot ships with a batch COA and the current SDS, FOB or CIF against destination. If you need a specific assay method, a water limit, an enantiomeric purity figure or a metal-residue limit, state it at enquiry stage – the batch documentation is issued against the specification you agree.

Handling: Use gloves, eye protection and local ventilation. Avoid dust generation, keep containers closed when not in use, and refer to the SDS for first aid, storage and disposal.
