1. What Agricultural PAM Does

2. Which Grade for Agriculture
- Anionic, very high molecular weight is the standard agricultural grade — it bridges soil particles effectively in the typical neutral-to-alkaline soil water.
- Nonionic is used in some acidic soil conditions where anionic performance drops.
- Cationic is generally not used in soil applications (it can harm soil structure and is more expensive).
- For food-contact situations (e.g. drip irrigation lines feeding edible crops), use a food-grade PAM with certified low residual acrylamide monomer.
3. How to Apply PAM in Agriculture
3.1 Dissolved application (furrow and sprinkler)
Dissolve PAM at about 0.05-0.1% and inject into irrigation water at a rate of 1-2 kg PAM per hectare-meter of water applied. This is the most effective method for furrow irrigation erosion control.
3.2 Granular application
Dry granules (about 1-5 kg/ha) can be broadcast on the soil surface before irrigation; rain or irrigation water dissolves them in place. Less uniform than solution dosing but simple.
3.3 Runoff and tailwater ponds
Dose PAM solution into tailwater or sediment ponds to flocculate suspended soil, speeding up settling so water can be reused.
4. Environmental and Safety Notes
- PAM itself is essentially non-toxic and biodegradable at normal use rates; the concern is the residual acrylamide monomer, which is a neurotoxin. Use food-grade PAM for food crops and verify residual monomer on the COA.
- Follow local regulations for agricultural chemical use; some regions specify maximum application rates.
- Do not use cationic grades or unapproved products in agricultural soils.
- Keep PAM dry in storage; it degrades on prolonged exposure to moisture and sunlight.

Is PAM safe for food crops?

How much PAM do I need per hectare?
For furrow irrigation erosion control, roughly 1-2 kg per hectare per irrigation event (about 2-10 ppm in the irrigation water). Confirm with local guidance and soil conditions.
Does PAM harm soil microorganisms?
